studioFAQs

I’ve never been to yoga before, where's the best place to start?

Our Yoga Classes are designed for beginners and people of all ability and level of experience.  We encourage our students to let the teacher know of any physical injuries before class. During class make sure to establish your own pace, as you know yourself best. Class is a place where information is exchanged and questions answered, so feel free to ask the teacher any questions that may arise.

How can I prepare for class? What should I expect?

Most of our classes are 75-90 minutes in length and take place in our main room.  It is important to arrive well hydrated to class, avoid eating a big meal for a few hours prior to class, and to bring or purchase water.  You can register for your first class online prior to arriving or can do so in person.  It is best to arrive 10 -15 minutes prior to your class.

What do I need to bring to class?

You will need a yoga mat, and water.  We rent/sell these items in our studio or you can bring your own.

What should I wear to class? Is there a place to change?

Comfortable yoga clothing that will allow you to exercise and stretch your body comfortably. Absolutely. We have two bathrooms at the studio for use before, during and after class.

.

Is there anything I should not bring to class?

We prefer not to have mobile devices into the classroom. If you bring your bag into the room, make sure to turn your Mobile off. Also, no shoes are permitted in the studio; you can leave them in the front of the studio.

How often is it recommended I attend Naam Yoga classes?

It is recommended that beginning students attend at least 10-12 classes during the first month, in order to effectively feel and see results.  Subsequently, we recommend 3 - 4 classes per week for maximum benefits.  Naam Yoga classes can be attended on a daily basis for those that are interested – there is no need to include a day of “rest” between classes. As Naam Yoga works on the 3 lines of defense: nervous system, digestion and immunity you will be able to see great results in your overall health. If you choose to attend as many as 3-5 classes per week these results will be evident earlier. This is not another exercise program, but rather an investment in your health.

What can I expect in a Naam Yoga class?

Regardless of your skill level, expect to:

-        Have a good sweat through a great workout

-        Enhanced relaxation – works on the parasympathetic nervous system

-        Expand lungs capacity as we work with ‘breath work’ throughout the class

What are the principles we use in a Naam Yoga class?

MOVEMENT.

We move the body to free the mind. We use special Shakti Naam alignment techniques, which cleans, tones and strengthens the internal organs, and recalibrates the flexibility of the spine. In the beginning of the class we use movement to warm the body and open the energy channels (meridians). A flexible and relaxed body makes it easier to perform yoga and prevent injury.  Additionally, the sequence of movements helps to encourage detoxification, allowing the body to rid of toxins and impurities that are not needed.

BREATH.

We use pranayama/ breath work consciously to expand the lung capacity. We use unique breath sequence that impacts the nature of the thought process, through fine-tuning of the nervous system.

CHANT.

We use sound currents to regenerate neurological pathways. Particular mantra series helps to move from unconscious thoughts and actions to progressive and liberated mind. When we chant we activate meridian points in the upper palate, thus indirectly massaging our brain to release ‘happy hormones’.
